It turns out that your chances of surviving in the Great Basin desert drop precipitously when you have neither water nor survival skills of any sort. Waking up with the pre-existing dehydration caused by marijuana and ecstasy tablets is also not a factor in her favor.

The book, looked at as a whole is an ever escalating progression from bad to worse.

I wrote it as a three part graphic novel.
For book 1 I did draw heavily from the Popol Vuh, the Mayan sacred text.

Also, the right survival thing to do in this situation is actually to rest and reserve energy during the day, then use energy and travel at night when it is cool.

A gila monster is the worst possible person to ask for desert survival advice. Over heating isn't really an issue for him.

I'm getting thirsty just looking at her. Hope she can find some water.

She needs to listin to Marcus. What I've learned in these types of situations is that you'd be surprised how far you can actually still go once you've hit that feeling of not being able to go on any further. For most of us we've only hit our halfway point in potential endurance by the time you feel this way.
