No story about Mayan mythology would be complete without the game of Pitz. It's a little like sideways basketball but with the added challenge of not being able to use your hands. Because that alone would be a mere diversion for toddlers, they opted to spice it up by playing with a ball made of solid rubber which could weigh up to twenty pounds. The ones in this story are towards the smaller end though there is no regulation size. Largely because a full sized ball would make Teo's pack an unwieldy size.

All in all, I'm very happy with this page. I've still got a ways to go. but I feel like the action works the way I wanted it to.

Thanks for reading y'all.

Damn. That is one serious game! And it looks painful!!! Do the losers all die? Hey wait a minute, didn't they use decapitated human heads!?!
Otherwise, how would they make a 20 pound rubber ball back then?

Yeah, it makes rugby look like tennis.

Occasionally the game was used to determine who would get sacrificed. But it was the winners who would die. The losers proved themselves unworthy of the honor.

The decapitated heads thing is a myth. Though in the original story, the gods play this game with a ball painted to look like a skull.

As for the ball itself, they would just tap a rubber tree and then get it into as round a shape as possible and add a specific plant extract to solidify it. As you can imagine, it's not nearly as round as a modern sport ball.

Thanks for that! Every good story has a lot of research behind it like this!

So it is better to lose! Cool :D
I guess they must have felt honor in being sacrificed or something because why win then?

Basically that. It was to prove yourself worthy of the honor. Gods don't want losers or any sub par offerings.

Yeah, I'm starting to think I should have opened with Teo playing Pitz in his home village. But, I can always go back if needed.

Yeah, that scene didn't really account for the weight of the ball. Gave the impression it was around rugby on the Olson scale of game danger.

Wow. Brutal game is brutal.

Good job on the action, though. You've got it flowing really well!

Thanks man! I'm building the skills I'm going to need for later scenes.
